WHY DO WE NEED SLEEP?
Part one: what is sleep- relax- regenerate, process information, sort the brain.
Part two: how much sleep adults, children and babies need.
Part three: deep sleep/ light sleep- D cycle- dreaming.
What is sleep, why do we need sleep? This explanation is going to outline the process of sleep. The process of sleep is a cycle where our bodies and our minds regenerate, recover, process information and relax. Our bodies require sleep everyday so we can function to the best of our ability.
Sleeping gives our bodies rest to prepare for the next day. Scientists don’t know why we sleep. No matter what happens we have to rest so that our bodies can work properly during the day.
Also researches have also shown that after people sleep, they tend to retain information and perform better on memory tasks.
Research has suggested that functioning normally is likely to be difficult by loss of sleep. Sleepiness can be especially difficult and even dangerous because you have a very high chance of losing your memory pretty often.
How much sleep do adults, children and babies need?
Babies and children need as much sleep as adults, why though? Because babies need to grow two times faster than grown ups also newborns need 14 to 17 hours of sleep total each day.
These are the schedules that newborn to toddlers to teenagers to adults sleep.
- 0 to 3 months newborn babies sleep until 14 to 17 hours.
- Toddlers 1 to 5 years old sleep until 11 to 14 hours
- Preschoolers 3 to 5 years old sleep until 10 to 13 hours.
- School aged children 6 to 13 years old sleep until 9 to 11 hours.
- Teenagers 14 to 17 years old sleep until 8 to to hours.
- And young adults 18 to 25 years old sleep until 7 to 9 hours.
If you don’t get enough sleep it is really bad for your health. Scientists have researched how much sleep we need by assigning groups of people to sleep 4, 6 and 8 hours. If we don’t get enough sleep we could get diseases like : Heart disease, Diabetes, Obesity, and 12% of a higher chance of death.
In the explanation i have explained the process of sleep. Remember sleep is a cycle where our bodies our minds regenerate, recover, process information and relax.
